Estate Planning and Probate

We assist individuals and families with services including the drafting of wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, and living wills (advanced directives).

We are licensed to represent personal representatives and trustees of Colorado and Nebraska estates and trusts.

Estate Planning

In planning, we take into consideration related factors such as our clients’ charitable intent, business succession planning, general retirement concerns, and situations which may require special needs trusts and spendthrift trusts.

We are mindful of tax issues including federal estate and gift tax as well as state-level inheritance tax in preparing an appropriate plan for each client’s unique needs and desires.

Our extensive experience with business succession planning assists our clients with the orderly transfer of closely held and family owned businesses, running the spectrum from tech companies to farms and ranches. Attorney Julie Karavas has extensive experience in counseling farmers and ranchers to develop appropriate succession plans to meet the unique needs of the particular family, while making sure personal estate plans reconcile with the overall business succession plan.

We believe strongly in the team approach when advising these clients and work with the closely held business clients’ CPA and financial advisor so that we are addressing issues from a practical and applied perspective.

Our estate planning attorneys work together with other Karavas & Kranz, PC attorneys whose practices are concentrated in real estate, complex entity planning and litigation which enables us to provide comprehensive legal services.

Probate and Trust Administration

When the time comes to administer the estate of a decedent, we will continue to provide timely and knowledgeable service in the area of probate and nonprobate estate administration as well as trust administration. We are licensed to represent personal representatives and trustees of Colorado and Nebraska estates and trusts. We can represent such fiduciary representatives who may live in a state other than Colorado and Nebraska on a remote basis.

Fiduciary Services

Litigation

In the event the administration of a trust or an estate doesn’t go smoothly, and there may be a question as to the testamentary capacity of the decedent, the status of an heir, or the character of the will or trust agreement, our probate litigation attorneys are able to represent the personal representative, trustee or the challenging party.
